Frequently Asked Questions

What can I expect from my first session?

Your first session is an intake appointment where Karla will get to know you, your background, and what brings you to therapy. It's a collaborative conversation — there's no pressure to share more than you're ready to. By the end, you'll have a clearer picture of what your therapeutic journey might look like.

How long does therapy typically last?

Every client's journey is different. Some people reach their goals in 8–12 sessions; others benefit from longer-term support. Karla will regularly check in with you about your progress and adjust the plan accordingly.

Is telehealth as effective as in-person therapy?

Research consistently shows that telehealth therapy is as effective as in-person sessions for most concerns. It also offers greater convenience and accessibility — especially for clients across Tennessee.

Do you accept insurance?

Currently, Healing Horizons operates as a private-pay practice. A sliding scale may be available for clients with demonstrated financial need. Please inquire when reaching out.

What is your cancellation policy?

We ask for at least 24 hours' notice for cancellations. Late cancellations or no-shows may be subject to a fee. Life happens — please communicate with us and we'll work together.

Is what I share in therapy confidential?

Yes. Confidentiality is a cornerstone of the therapeutic relationship. There are limited legal exceptions (e.g., imminent risk of harm), which Karla will review with you during intake.

Do you work with children?

I have experience working with adolescents and teens, particularly within a family therapy or MST context. Contact us to discuss whether individual sessions for a younger client might be appropriate.

How do I prepare for telehealth sessions?

Find a quiet, private space where you won't be interrupted. Use a stable internet connection, headphones if possible, and a device with a working camera. Log in a few minutes early to test your setup.
